چکیده

We aim at deriving accurate atmospheric parameters and chemical abundances of 19 barium (Ba) stars, including both strong and mild Ba stars, based on the high signalto-noise ratio and high resolution Echelle spectra obtained from the 2.16 m telescope at Xinglong station of National Astronomical Observatories, Chinese Academy of Sciences. The chemical abundances of the sample stars were obtained from an LTE, plane-parallel and line-blanketed atmospheric model by inputting the atmospheric parameters (effective temperatures Teff , surface gravities log g, metallicity [Fe/H] and microturbulent velocity ξt) and equivalent widths of stellar absorption lines. These samples of Ba stars are giants indicated by atmospheric parameters, metallicities and kinematic analysis about UVW velocity. Chemical abundances of 17 elements were obtained for these Ba stars. Their Na, Al, αand iron-peak elements (O, Na, Mg, Al, Si, Ca, Sc, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Ni) are similar to the solar abundances. Our samples of Ba stars show obvious overabundances of neutron-capture (n-capture) process elements relative to the Sun. Their median abundances of [Ba/Fe], [La/Fe] and [Eu/Fe] are 0.54, 0.65 and 0.40, respectively. The Y I and Zr I abundances are lower than Ba, La and Eu, but higher than the αand iron-peak elements for the strong Ba stars and similar to the iron-peak elements for the mild stars. There exists a positive correlation between Ba intensity and [Ba/Fe]. For the n-capture elements (Y, Zr, Ba, La), there is an anti-correlation between their [X/Fe] and [Fe/H]. We identify nine of our sample stars as strong Ba stars with [Ba/Fe]>0.6 where seven of them have Ba intensity Ba=2-5, one has Ba=1.5 and another one has Ba=1.0. The remaining ten stars are classified as mild Ba stars with 0.17<[Ba/Fe]<0.54.

Se p 19 99 Chemical Abundances of Bright Giants in the Mildly Metal - Poor Globular Cluster

We present a chemical composition analysis of three dozen giant stars in the nearby “CN-bimodal” mildly metal-poor (<[Fe/H]> = -1.18) globular cluster M4. The analysis combined traditional spectroscopic abundance methods with modifications to the line-depth ratio technique pioneered by Gray (1994). Silicon and aluminum are found to be primordially overabundant by factors exceeding the mild over...

Analysis of 26 Barium Stars ⋆ , ⋆ ⋆ II . Contributions

Context. Barium stars show enhanced abundances of the slow neutron capture (s-process) heavy elements, and for this reason they are suitable objects for the study of s-process elements. Aims. The aim of this work is to quantify the contributions of the s-, r-and p-processes for the total abundance of heavy elements from abundances derived for a sample of 26 barium stars. The abundance ratios be...

Analysis of 26 Barium Stars ⋆ , ⋆ ⋆ I . Abundances

Context. We present a detailed analysis of 26 barium stars, including dwarf barium stars, providing their atmospheric parameters (T eff , log g, [Fe/H], v t) and elemental abundances. Aims. We aim at deriving gravities and luminosity classes of the sample stars, in particular to confirm the existence of dwarf barium stars. Accurate abundances of chemical elements were derived. Abundance ratios ...

Mn, Cu, and Zn abundances in barium stars and their correlations with neutron capture elements⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆

Barium stars are optimal sites for studying the correlations between the neutron-capture elements and other species that may be depleted or enhanced, because they act as neutron seeds or poisons during the operation of the s-process. These data are necessary to help constrain the modeling of the neutron-capture paths and explain the s-process abundance curve of the solar system. Chemical abunda...

Barium even-to-odd isotope abundance ratios in thick disk and thin disk stars

We present the Ba even-to-odd isotope abundance ratios in 25 cool dwarf stars with the metallicity [Fe/H] ranging between 0.25 and –1.35. Our method takes advantage of the hyperfine structure (HFS) affecting the Ba  resonance line of the odd isotopes. The fractional abundance of the odd isotopes of Ba is derived from a requirement that Ba abundances from the resonance line λ 4554 and subordin...
